Job description

Drones run out of battery. That is the whole problem. A drone that flies 25 minutes can inspect one wind turbine. A drone that flies 50 minutes can inspect three. Every extra minute in the air changes what the machine is good for.

We build the batteries that buy those minutes. Tulip Tech designs and manufactures high-density battery packs and our own battery management systems for drones, electric aircraft, and defence. Research, development, and production all happen in one building in Den Bosch. Our packs deliver 30 to 100 percent more flight time than standard systems, and every single one is tested and documented before it ships.

We do not just design them. We manufacture them. At volume.

Why this role matters

  • Our electronics team is good at building things. We want to get better at building them right the first time. That means the research happens before the schematic, the requirements are written down before the layout, and the design that goes to our EMS partner is the design that comes back working.

  • That is what you own. Not a board. The path a product takes from an open question to a manufactured unit.

  • You will be the engineer on the team with the most production scars, and we are hiring you because of them.

What you will achieve

  • Own product development end to end: research, requirements, schematic, PCB layout, verification, and handover to the EMS partner who builds it

  • Define requirements before design starts, and push back on the ones that do not survive a hard question

  • Work daily with our mechanical engineers so that electronics and mechanics are solving the same problem, not two versions of it

  • Discus with our manufacturing partners to reach the highest quality level possible in the available time

  • Raise the quality bar of what leaves the electronics team, in design, in documentation, and in yield

  • Run development inside our V-model process so that verification is built in rather than bolted on

  • Leave behind requirements, test results, and decisions that the next engineer can build on.

Job requirements

  • 10+ years developing electronics or electrical products in a company, not in a lab

  • Products you designed that were manufactured and you could hold into your own hands. This is the one we will ask about hardest. Volumes, the customer, the pivots, what went wrong. Hobby projects and university work do not count here.

  • Real development experience. You have started from a blank sheet, not maintained someone else's design

  • Experience in defining requirements, including the part where you work out what the customer needs rather than what they asked for

  • Hands-on habits. You reach for a scope and a soldering iron before you reach for a ticket

  • Experienced in working with an EMS or external manufacturer, and an understanding that their feedback is engineering input rather than an inconvenience. Via predefined methods like DFM and DFX and best practices used in the industry.

  • A track record of close collaboration with mechanical engineers. As we work always in multidisciplinary teams

  • EU right to work

Nice to have

  • Altium Designer. It is what we use, but we care more about how you design than where you design in. Cadence, Mentor, or KiCad backgrounds are welcome

  • An HBO background, or any route that made you more practical than theoretical

  • Battery, BMS, or power electronics experience

  • Drone, UAV, or aerospace hardware experience

  • Compliance experience: CE, IEC, or UN38.3

  • Proficiency in standards e.g.: IPC-2221/2, IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, IPC-J-STD-001

Nice to have means not required.

Additional information

  • Location: Den Bosch, Netherlands. On-site. This is a hardware role, and the lab is next to the office on purpose

  • Travel: occasional, primarily to our EMS partners

  • Work authorisation: EU right to work required. No visa sponsorship, linked to our defence partnerships

  • Interview process: four stages. Recruiter screen, technical deep dive with the electronics team lead, and a final conversation
